Held in the scenic area of Point Loma, the San Diego International Triathlon starts in Spanish Landing and heads towards Cabrillo National Monument. Along the way you will ascend Canon Rd and do a few rollers as you pass the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and various Navy research centers. You will do two loops of the rollers and then descend Canon Rd and back to Spanish Landing. It is in my opinion a Roadies course with the climb on Canon and the rollers.

As a RECOVERY RIDE I recommend this easy ride North on the coast to Oceanside. Take some time to look around the scenery is very relaxing. By the way, the graph makes it look harder than it really is.

A great beginners ride. Starting in Del Mar head South on the coast and turn LEFT on Carmel Valley Road. There is a little bit of traffic to contend with but this is San Diego. Make a RIGHT turn onto El Camino Real and about 50 meters from the corner is the access to the bike path. Be careful there is a short (5 meters) steep dirt entryway and a quick right turn at the bottom.
This is now a dedicated bike path with NO CARS. Watch for oncoming cyclists, dogs (should be leashed) baby joggers and so on but NO CARS. Head EAST on the bike path which goes as far as Rancho Penesquitos. Make a U-TURN and head WEST back to the coast.
As you can see from the elevation profile you ascend gradually going EAST and descend going WEST. Also on the profile you will see a RIGHT on Portofino (MILE 21) and do part of Wango Tango on Mango back to the coast. As a RECOVERY RIDE I recommend this easy ride North on the coast to Oceanside. Take some time to look around the scenery is very relaxing. By the way, the graph makes it look harder than it really is.
